The 494th Fighter Squadron from RAF Lakenheath returned from its three-month deployment to the Middle East on August 22. Part of the 48th Fighter Wing, the squadron had been sent to Muwaffaq Salti/Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan, where they helped bolster the US defense amid the Gaza crisis. The squadron consisted of 12 McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagles, ten of which flew back to the Suffolk airbase.
