Arriving at RAF Lakenheath on September 3, was ten F-35A Lightning IIs of the 388th Fighter Wing. The aircraft arrived as Tabor 11-14, 21-24 and 31/32. The following day, the remaining two aircraft, Tabor 33/34 arrived from Aviano Air Base, Italy, due to an issue. The 388th had previously passed throught the Suffolk base between March 19 and 24 en route to US Central Commands area of responsibility. The F-35s were meant to depart on September 5 as three cells of four aircraft with three tankers per cell at 10:00 Zulu, 10:30z and 11:00z but issues with the tankers forced delays. Tabor11-14 waited for nearly three hours before departing with just two tankers, having to diver to Gander, Canada. Tabor21-24 departed with a 25 minute delay and Tabor31-34 a 15 minute delay.
