AIRCRAFT AND personnel assigned to the USMC's 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), headquartered at Camp Hansen in Okinawa, Japan, have recently embarked with the US Navy's America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) for a patrol in the Western Pacific (WESTPAC). Elements of the 31st MEU began to embark aboard the vessels that make up the America ARG, which is led by the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6) and comprises the San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock USS San Diego (LPD-22) and Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Rushmore (LSD-47), on January 28. After departing Japan shortly after, the America ARG ventured into the Philippine Sea to conduct flight operations, which it was still reported to be doing as of February 11.
